Project description

The SeaChem Project aims to develop new technologies for offshore seaweed cultivation, focusing on integrating stainless-steel aquaculture structures with pre-existing offshore infrastructure, such as wind farms. The consortium emphasizes sustainability, applying cutting-edge techniques like microwave and ultrasound-assisted chemical extraction to maximize the yield of valuable compounds from seaweed. Additionally, the project includes geo-mapping to identify optimal locations for seaweed growth, as well as advanced sustainability assessments of cultivation and biorefinery systems. These efforts contribute to the project’s overarching goal of replacing fossil-fuel-based chemical production with renewable and sustainable alternatives derived from seaweed(
